Mission Statement

In order to create a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery commits to educating and engaging with dermatologists throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through open communication, community partnerships, and meaningful collaboration. To address health inequities and disparities, we commit to broadening awareness, research, and advocacy for the unmet needs of all of our patients. We commit to increasing diversity in our workforce and leadership which is vital to achieving these goals.​

Scholarship Opportunity
for
URM Students

The Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology (PAD) is the premier organization advancing the interests of dermatologists and their patients throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Each September, the PAD hosts its Annual Scientific Meeting, inviting top speakers and leaders in the field to speak, teach and engage current and prospective dermatologists. It is an incredible opportunity for attendees to network with peers and leaders, learn, and grow as a physician.

Selected scholars will receive the following as part of the scholarship:

  1. Complimentary meeting registration.

  2. Free accommodations for three nights at The Westin (check in Thursday, September 19th, check out Sunday September 22nd, 2024). 

  3. Travel reimbursement including mileage, tolls, and meals (PAD will not reimburse for alcohol). Recipients are expected to attend all meals provided at the PAD meeting.  

  4. Opportunities to aspire, learn, meet the DEI Task Force members, meet other scholarship winners, attend social events, interact with industry sponsors, experience the exhibit hall and try cosmetic samples, and much more!

 

Eligibility for Scholars: 

  1. Must be underrepresented in medicine as defined by the AAMC, including those who identify as African American, Central American (e.g., Mexican American), Native American (e.g., Native Hawaiian or Alaskan), and/or Puerto Rican.

  2. Must be a current dermatology resident or medical student (MD or DO) in Pennsylvania (exception: those at Cooper Health may also apply) at the time of the meeting.

  3. Must submit a Letter of Good Standing from your Program Director or Associate Program Director (for residents) or a Professor or Dean (for medical students).

  4. Must answer essay questions provided in the application portal.

  5. Must be able to attend the entire meeting. (Thursday, September 19th through Sunday, September 22nd, staying at The Westin).

  6. Must check in with PAD Staff Members for each event throughout the course of the Annual Meeting.
