The Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery (PAD) is dedicated to actively educating Pennsylvania’s youth about sun safety. To further its mission, the PAD created the Sun Defense Essay Contest as a way to engage elementary school students about the dangers of overexposure to the sun.

Sun Defense Essay Contest
How the contest works: Participating schools have their students write an essay, 500 words or less, about the reasons people should protect themselves from the sun. Each school selects “one” winner from its student body to represent the school in the contest. The winning essay must be submitted to the PAD for consideration. The Academy will then select one winner.
Prize: The winning school will receive a grant to create and fund its own sun safety education program. The contest’s inaugural winner was Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania Charter School.
Who is eligible: Only elementary school students (up to sixth grade) are eligible. The contest rotates to a different region (western, eastern and central regions) in Pennsylvania. Contact email@example.com if your school is interested in participating.
