So much has happened in the last year and a half of this ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. PAD held our 2021 Fall Symposium at the Hershey Lodge, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, from September 24-25, 2021. Ultimately, the safety of our attendees was of the utmost concern, which is why we are pleased to offer the meeting as enduring materials.
The meeting was a great success with informational sessions and topics. With such great content, we wanted to share it with those of you who were unable to attend.
Here you will find inspiring speakers and topical sessions that will provide you with a continuing education opportunity.

Modern Management of Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Joslyn Kirby, MD, MS, MEd Dr. Kirby is a dermatologist and clinician-researcher at Penn State Hershey. She earned her Medical degree from the University of Virginia, then completed her Dermatology Residency at the University of Pennsylvania. In her clinical and research work, she is interested in acneiform conditions, especially, hidradenitis suppurativa, including its effects on people, outcome measurement, and pathomechanisms. She is the PI of a number of clinical research trials. All of this is made possible by the support of her husband and two daughters.

The Other Viruses: Update on Non-COVID Infection Management
Lorraine L. Rosamilia, MD, FAAD Dr. Rosamilia is a Staff Dermatologist and Site Director with the Geisinger Health System Dept of Dermatology, practicing in State College, PA at Scenery Park for the past 12 years. She received medical school and residency training in Dermatology at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, and has particular academic interest in resident and primary care teaching, legislative advocacy at the state and national levels, and scientific journal editing. Her practice focus includes medical dermatology, namely infectious disease, psoriasis, acne, and skin malignancy.
She is past president of the PAD, on which she has also served for the past decade on its board of directors. Further, she is on the Board of Trustees for District 6 for the Pennsylvania Medical Society and serves on their Specialty Leadership Cabinet. She is also an associate editor of Cutis journal, she is a reviewer for dermatology publications, including JAAD and JAMA Dermatology, and she served on the AAD State Policy committee and is Chair of the Self-Assessment committee that authors ‘Question of the Week’. She was named in the Pennsylvania Medical Society’s ‘Top 40 Physicians Under 40’ in 2017, Dermatologist of the Year for the PAD in 2019, has for several years been the recipient of top decile national awards for patient satisfaction based on Press Ganey scores, including the Victor Marks Award for the highest patient satisfaction score of any specialist at Geisinger for 2020. She grew up in Lock Haven, PA, is married to Rocco Rosamilia, an attorney, and has 2 children, Natalie and Charlie, ages 10 and 5, with whom she enjoys trail running, world travel, and anything involving music. |

Key Tips for Managing Pigmentation Issues in Skin of Color Patients
Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD, a Harvard, Columbia and University of Pennsylvania educated physician as well as a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Dermatology, is the Sandra Lazarus Professor of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Taylor has performed pioneering work establishing Skin of Color as a sub-specialty within Dermatology. Her work has focused on advancing clinical knowledge and addressing gaps in research and education regarding skin of color populations. As Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Department of Dermatology, and as former Vice President of the American Academy of Dermatology, she has led education, policy and research initiatives that have invigorated a national dialogue about diversity, health disparities, and skin of color related issues.
Dr. Taylor’s clinical focus encompasses disorders that uniquely or disproportionately affect patients of color including alopecia, scalp disorders, pigmentary disorders, cosmetic and appearance enhancing devices, and cultural competency. She serves as Principal Investigator for Phase II through Phase IV clinical research trials. Dr. Taylor has over 75 original publications and has co-edited two major dermatology textbooks, Dermatology for Skin of Color (McGraw Hill) and Treatment for Skin of Color (Elsevier). Dr. Taylor is a former board member of the Skin of Color Society and the Women’s Dermatology Society. She is a member of the American Dermatologic Association. |
